Abby and the girls didn’t have much stuff with them. It only took five minutes for them to shove their measly belongings into a bag and pile into my car. Before we left, Keith made sure all our phones were charged and had his number in them, just in case. After I got them home and set them up in the daylight basement, I retreated to the dining room. Grace was asleep in her room. With all the trouble she had had sleeping since her powers manifested, I couldn’t bring myself to wake her. Instead, I sat and wrote a note so she would know what was going on.

Abby and her younger sister are staying with us for a while. They’ve brought a friend too. They seem like sweet kids, just very scared. I know it’s not the best time, but they need a safe place to stay.

If it gets to be too much, tell me and I’ll try to figure something else out.

I love you, and we’ll get through this together.
